The dining room fell dead silent. The manager’s smug face drained of color as Daniel Whitmore—the billionaire owner of the entire franchise—dropped to his knees, clutching his gasping son.
“Mr. Whitmore!” the manager stammered, sweating bullets. “I—I was handling it! This dishwasher, Ethan, broke corporate policy! I already fired him to protect the company from a lawsuit!”
Whitmore didn’t even look at him. He stood up, tears in his eyes, and locked onto the young dishwasher in the stained apron.
“He didn’t break policy,” Whitmore said, his voice trembling with fury. “He’s the only one who acted.”
The manager scoffed, desperate to save his job. “Sir, with all due respect, he’s just a clueless teenager!”
“Am I?” the boy interrupted.
The timid, slouched posture of the teenage dishwasher instantly vanished. He untied the filthy apron and tossed it directly onto the manager’s chest. From his jeans, a sleek smartphone began to buzz.
He tapped the screen and held it to his ear, his demeanor shifting into absolute, chilling authority.
“Yes. I’m Dr. Michael Carter,” he said calmly into the phone. “The audit is complete.”
The manager’s jaw hit the floor. “Doctor? Audit?”
Whitmore finally turned to the manager, his eyes blazing. “Did you really think corporate would ignore the anonymous safety complaints at this branch? Dr. Carter is our new Chief Medical Officer. I asked him to go undercover to audit our emergency protocols.”
Dr. Carter stepped forward, his eyes cutting like ice. “You didn’t just fail the safety inspection. You actively tried to prevent a life-saving rescue to avoid doing paperwork.”
Whitmore pointed to the door. “He doesn’t work for you. But as of right now, you don’t work for me. You’re fired.”
As the manager walked out in utter disgrace, the restaurant erupted into a deafening standing ovation.
