Part 2: Part 1: The Sudden Interruption The ballroom of Le Grand Hot

The heavy oak doors burst open. A little girl in a white tulle dress sprinted past the stunned billionaires and paralyzed bodyguards, her tiny shoes slapping against the mirrored marble.

“Stop! Don’t cut the cake!” she screamed, her desperate voice piercing the magnificent silence.

Elena froze, the heavy silver knife hovering inches from the pristine fondant. Beside her, Julian’s flawless, elite smile instantly hardened into a mask of pure ice. Gasps rippled through the crowd. Diamonds glittered under the chandeliers as smartphones shot into the air, the high-society guests eagerly recording every second of the scandal.

Utterly confused, Elena lowered the knife. “Sweetheart, why stop me?” she asked, her voice trembling gently.

The girl didn’t flinch. She held out a small, crimson velvet box. “My mom said this bracelet is yours.”

Elena took the box. The moment she flipped the lid, the air left her lungs. Inside lay a delicate platinum chain adorned with a blue enamel swallow—the custom piece Elena had given her sister, Clara. Clara, the brilliant pastry chef who mysteriously vanished six months ago after discovering Julian’s massive offshore fraud. Julian swore she had fled the country.

Elena’s face contorted in sudden, agonizing grief. She dropped to the girl’s eye level, weeping hysterically, completely uncaring of the flashing cameras. “This bracelet… Where is your mother?” she choked out.

The little girl stared back with chilling calm. “She said you would understand.”

Elena looked from the bracelet to the massive five-tier wedding cake. Suddenly, the overwhelming scent radiating from the sugar flowers made sense. It wasn’t almond extract. It was cyanide.

Clara hadn’t fled. She had been hiding in the shadows of the Vane estate, biding her time.

“Don’t eat it!” Elena shrieked, but she was a second too late. To diffuse the awkward scene and prove the cake was fine, Julian had already swiped a finger through the frosting and licked it clean.

As the billionaire groom collapsed clutching his throat, police sirens began howling in the distance. Midnight had arrived early.
