Tesla’s earnings call featured CEO Elon Musk answering a series of questions about the EV company’s operations. It was during this call that he stated Tesla will never ship unsupervised Full Self-Driving for Hardware 3 vehicles.
“Unfortunately, Hardware 3, I wish it were otherwise, but Hardware 3 simply does not have the capability to achieve unsupervised,” said Elon Musk on Tesla’s Q1 2026 earnings call. Full Self-Driving, Tesla’s proprietary software that enables electric vehicles to pilot themselves, is available in many of the company’s cars. However, its unsupervised version will never come to vehicles running Hardware 3.

The distinction between supervised and unsupervised FSD is that supervised FSD requires human guidance and monitoring, while unsupervised FSD does not.
