Part 2: The ballroom glittered with gold light. Laughter floated—ef

The room was dead silent.
You could hear the ice melting in the glasses.

Isabella looked over her shoulder.
Her eyes locked onto Alex.

“That fifty grand you bet me?” she said, her voice echoing perfectly in the vaulted hall. “I expect it wired to my foundation by midnight.”

Alex swallowed hard. His face flushed tight.
“Fifty grand is nothing to me,” he choked out, desperately trying to salvage his pride.

Isabella chuckled.
A dark, melodic sound that made the room shiver.

“I know it’s nothing, Alex.”

She snapped her fingers.

The host immediately stepped forward, handing her a sleek black leather folder. Isabella tossed it effortlessly onto the exact silver tray she’d been carrying minutes ago.

It slid to a stop right in front of Alex’s chest.

“Because your real problem isn’t fifty thousand dollars,” she whispered, tilting her head. “It’s fifty million.”

Alex’s eyes darted to the embossed logo on the folder.
His blood turned to ice.

*Vanguard Holdings.*
His company.
His entire life.

“You came to my gala tonight to beg for a bailout,” Isabella said, her words cutting through the air like a scalpel. “You needed the anonymous angel investor to sign off on your merger. Otherwise, your firm goes into liquidation at 9:00 AM tomorrow.”

Alex staggered back. His knees buckled.
His gold-digging date gasped, backing into the crowd, wanting nothing to do with a ruined man.

“You…” Alex gasped, the realization suffocating him. “You’re the investor?”

“I *was* the investor,” Isabella corrected.

She turned back toward the grand exit, her white cape catching the dramatic blue spotlight.

“I wanted to meet the man I was saving.” She paused at the threshold, her profile sharp, stunning, and completely ruthless. “Turns out, he wasn’t worth the rescue.”

The heavy oak doors began to swing shut.

“Enjoy the dance, Alex.”

The doors slammed.

Total ruin, delivered in a whisper.
