“Excuse me?” my mother scoffed, adjusting her gold necklace with a patronizing smirk. “You’re throwing me out of my own home? Need I remind you who controls the family trust?”
“You don’t need to,” I said, my voice dangerously calm. “But you clearly never read the fine print of Grandpa’s will.”
Her smug expression faltered.
I pulled a folded legal document from my inside jacket pocket—the actual reason I had rushed home early to celebrate.
“Grandpa didn’t leave the estate to you,” I explained, stepping over the mess. “He left it in a dormant trust, legally mandated to transfer entirely to the firstborn male heir of the Thomas bloodline.”
My mother’s eyes darted to the marble floor. To the smashed sponge. To the bright *blue* frosting coating her designer heel.
*Happy Birthday Daddy.*
It wasn’t just a birthday cake. It was a gender reveal.
All the color violently drained from my mother’s face. By stomping on my wife’s surprise, she had literally crushed the announcement of her own financial ruin.
“That’s right,” I whispered, reaching down to gently pull my trembling wife to her feet, wrapping my arms around her. “The sole owner of this house, the trust, and the company is currently kicking inside my wife’s stomach. And as his mother and legal guardian…” I paused, letting the silence suffocate her. “…she gets to decide who is allowed on his property.”
My mother gasped, taking a step back and dropping her expensive purse directly into the ruined blue icing. “You can’t do this! I raised you!”
“And now I’m raising my son,” I replied, placing the bright bouquet of flowers into my wife’s hands.
I looked over at our housemaid. “Maria? Call the police. We have a squatter.”
