The whisper that cracked the glass mansion wide open happened on a Tuesday. Hidden behind the pantry door, Elena heard Vanessa hiss to Brooke, the young “specialized nurse.”
*“Just two more drops tonight. Make sure you wear the heavy gloves—it blistered my skin yesterday.”*
Elena’s blood ran cold. They weren’t starving Caleb. They were slowly poisoning him. But Elena knew Harrison would never believe a housekeeper over his glamorous fiancée. He needed to witness the nightmare himself.
That evening, in the formal dining room beneath the glittering crystal chandelier, Elena set her trap. She secretly disposed of Brooke’s discreet medical gloves, leaving only a pair of thick, bright-yellow industrial cleaning gloves in the nursery.
When feeding time arrived, Brooke didn’t care. Desperate to protect her own skin from the toxic solvent she had slipped into the milk, she wore the heavy rubber gloves anyway.
Brooke leaned forward in her crisp blue uniform and white ruffled apron, smiling warmly as she lifted the silver spoon. “Good boy,” she cooed in a sickly-sweet tone. The baby babbled weakly in his thick white blanket.
Standing in the background, Harrison absentmindedly adjusted his tie—until he actually looked at them. He froze, his right hand slapping over his mouth. The bizarre, horrifying image finally registered: *Why was she wearing heavy-duty chemical gloves to feed his son?*
“Wait!” Harrison’s voice shattered the quiet room. He stared at the grotesque yellow rubber framing his son’s pale face. “What exactly is she giving him?”
Brooke didn’t flinch. She didn’t even turn around. Her eyes remained dead and completely locked on the baby, the poisoned spoon hovering inches from Caleb’s mouth.
Before she could force it in, Elena stepped out from the shadows, slamming a half-empty vial of industrial solvent onto the polished mahogany table.
“Her inheritance, Mr. Whitmore,” Elena said coldly. “She is feeding him her inheritance.”
